If you feel a post is inappropriate

Hi folks,

Just a quick note in regards to the moderation of the group. Sometimes if I am a bit short on time or if we get a lot of posts at once I may have to just skim the overall gist of the posts rather than reading them word for word before I approve them, also we all have a different perspective as to what is acceptable and thus there may sometimes be the odd post that gets through that you may feel is inappropriate. And while this doesn’t seem to happen very often if there is anything that anybody reads and feels is inappropriate then please feel free to either shoot me a PM or use the contact form to let me know and I will always be happy to take another look at it.

Please keep in mind however that a post does have to be quite bad or harmful to the group as a whole for us to delete it, I don’t like to be too heavy handed with that kind of moderation and try to reserve it for only when it is absolutely necessarily as generally I like people to be able to have their say and most things can be ironed out with dialogue and often we can all learn from it, that said if you feel something is inappropriate like I say please feel free to let me know and I will be happy to take another look.

All the best,

  • Cold Turkeying it from marijuana!

    marijuana withdrawal symptoms relief
Have read a few of the listed blogs and find they all have very interesting, and helpful points to motivate me to detox a 12 year smoking habit.

What I am not hearing is how people are doing it!

Is Cold Turkey the only way?

Can I get rid of the bong out of the lounge room and may have the odd joint only for a couple of months and wean off that way?

Can I stop smoking alone and only smoke with friends and wean off that way?

Does it matter if I drink more for a while to compensate less mariguana, and wean off that way?

Is it wong to have the attitude, "I do want to detox but would still like the odd joint every know and then"?

Is Cold Turkey the only way?

What I would like to hear is how actual individuals are doing it and was it by doing things such as the above.

Obviously I finding Cold Turkey tough!

    Marijuana Addiction Abuse

    Hi welcome to the forum

I think a fair few people have mentioned the method they are using to quit. Personally I favour the gradually reducing the amount you smoke method, as I think you hit the ground with less of a thud and experience less of a withdrawal, that’s the method I used and found it to be successful. But whether you decide to go cold turkey or gradually reduce the amount you smoke before quitting, is a decision everybody has to make for themselves based on what they feel is best for them and what they feel they will find easier to achieve. Different things work best for different people depending on your situation.

As far as using alcohol to help wean yourself off weed, personally I would not as you are only really swapping the one recreational drug for the other and you don’t really want to end up dependant on that either.

Like I say everybody has to make these decisions for themselves, but that would be my advice. You may want to check out our tips on How to detox smoking marijuana.

Anytime you want advice or to get something off your chest we are here to listen, please keep us posted on how it goes, take care and the very best of luck.

I am using the gradually reducing the amount you smoke method and it seems to be working fine for me so far, I have cut down from six joints a day to two over the course of five weeks. Good luck!

I have chosen the cold turkey method because I wasn’t that heavy a smoker and seem to be handling it fairly ok so far, but like the admin says different things work best for different people. If you are a heavy smoker it may be best to cut down first, but cold turkey is working not too bad for me, it is not easy but is bearable and I am keen to get it over with as soon as possible.

Hi Im Anorak and have used for 25 years, This is the second time I quit,The first time I did a long tapering over months, I mananged to stay off for a few months , eventually I cracked open the quarter I had been looking at every day on the kitchen table. I have to admit I did enjoy that first hit ,but before long I was back to square one, smokin just to feel normal, spendin all my cash on it,gettin worried when my stash ran out . A couple of weeks ago I quit again but didi a much shorter taper , maybe a couple of weeks or so,and wowow was it rocky..freaky dreams very intense, for the first week it was fairly cool ,emotionally speaking ,apart from the sleeplessness but then I just had three days of being very tearfull and devestated for no apparent reason, I just have to keep telling myself that my brain is biochemically readjuusting and has forgotten how to feel ok without THC floating round all the time. This just seemed to come from nowhere and I was very disturbed .Feelin a bit better today and hopefully it will be my first day without crying. So for me it seems a long taper works better ,like the mod says you hit the ground with less of a bump that way. Best wishes to all those going through this, you can do it.This rehab group is a good thing, it can be hard when people round dont understand.Love, Respect...Anorak

            6 Days and Counting

I would like to thank you all for being so supportive. It has been 6 days since I quit my 10 year habit. The physical symptoms are almost gone (they were pretty bad for the first few days). Days 3 and 4 were the worst. The worst cravings seem to occur at night.

Thankfully I did not have eating problems but I do experience the following:
            - Physical and psychological cravings.
            - Fits of crying for the first couple of days.
            - Strange dreams at night.
            - Irritability at times.

As time goes by, the symptoms are getting less severe. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Some of the improvements since quitting:
            - Better concentration and focus.
            - Clearer lungs.
            - Lower heart rate.
            - More money.
            - Healthier diet.

Hi Deb and welcome to the forum.

It’s hard to say how long they will last as different people can have very different experiences, especially when it comes to the psychological symptoms, I have just started a poll that asks people how long they have found they lasted so hopefully we will have some hard data for you soon, I have read many different reports, some that say the vast majority of people are fine after a month and others that say people can still be suffering psychologically for up to a year and a half later, like I say from what I can gather different people can have very different experiences, but it will be interesting to see what the results of our poll will be.

Take care and please keep us posted on how it is going for you.

                  cold turkey up date

well hello again my first post was on xmas day, then i was on day five. Its now day 13, sweats have stopped, i had a few weird dreams with red indians smoking a peace pipe (go figure hahah) moods arent as bad as they were, still have no desire to have a smoke, even though im around it every day.
Was the 1st xmas and new years eve i have been straight in 40 years!!!!!
would just like to tell people it is worth it, being straight is good, i see the world differently, im more positive, my skin is better, even my sons have noticed the difference in my skin, less wrinkles around my mouth as im not on the end of a bong all the time. Life is good, im not 100% as i still have thc in my system (had a drug test), my doc said it can take up to 6 weeks to get out of my system. I know i will get through it all.
Thanks for listeningand thanks for this forum
                  hugs

Hi Deb, today is day 12 for me!

Two nights ago I had a scary dream. I dreamt that I woke up in the morning and went down to smoke a big bowl of weed. I felt incredibility ashamed of myself and I couldn’t believe that I smoked, I wished I didn’t! Luckily it was only a dream. When I woke up I had to think twice if I did or not, because it seemed so real.

Good for you, this was my first Christmas and New Years that I didn’t smoke pot too! I also didn’t drink that much, in fact, New Year’s I only had two beers; I was stone-cold-sober! It was great; I had just as much fun as I normally would have.

Noticing a difference in your skin…. Wow, I wasn’t sure if something was different with me, I thought it was just that I wasn’t stoned so I was looking different (I usually had stony, red eyeballs, hahaha). But, I have noticed that my entire face is looking different, healthier.

I was going to try a detox supplement program, but I am already taking in enough supplements and I eat pretty healthy, so I decided that it wasn’t necessary for me, thought it would probably speed up the detoxing. Along with my supplements and a multi-vitamin, I am trying to drink more water to flush it out of my system.

Hi Dale it’s always great to hear from you, we really do appreciate you keeping us informed on how you are doing, I am so pleased to hear how long you have been clean for, well done and thanks for the kind words about the forum, it quite literally would be nothing without people like you who provide the experiences, I thank you all. I heard from needabreak that hippy chick is fine, she is still clean but has been without internet access for a while, but hopes to return some day, which I am sure we all hope the same, she really was extremely supportive and an inspiration to us all.

Anyway thanks for keeping us posted, take care and happy new year!
